History & Heritage

Founded in 1724 by Rémy Martin, a winegrower from the Cognac region, the House of Rémy Martin has been a symbol of excellence for nearly three centuries. From its humble beginnings, the brand has grown into a global icon, driven by a commitment to quality and a deep respect for tradition.

Rémy Martin is unique as the only major cognac house specializing in Fine Champagne Cognac, a blend of eaux-de-vie from the prestigious Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus. Over the years, the brand has been shaped by visionary leaders, including Paul-Émile Rémy Martin, who introduced the iconic centaur logo in 1810, and André Renaud, who launched the legendary Rémy Martin VSOP Fine Champagne in 1927.

Today, the House of Rémy Martin continues to honor its heritage while embracing innovation, guided by the expertise of its Master Blenders, including the renowned Baptiste Loiseau.

Distillery & Terroir

Rémy Martin’s excellence is deeply rooted in the Fine Champagne terroir, a region renowned for its chalky soils and temperate climate. This unique environment, combined with centuries of expertise, allows the House to produce cognacs of unparalleled richness and complexity.

The vineyards of Rémy Martin are located in the heart of the Cognac region, with a focus on the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus. These areas are celebrated for their ability to produce eaux-de-vie with exceptional aging potential.

Since 2012, Rémy Martin’s vineyards have been certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE), reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainable viticulture. By 2020, 50% of the vineyards managed by Rémy Martin’s partners had achieved this certification, ensuring that every bottle of cognac is crafted with respect for the environment.

Distilling Philosophy & Craftsmanship

The art of crafting Rémy Martin cognac is a meticulous process that begins with the careful selection of grapes from the finest vineyards. The grapes are harvested at peak maturity and fermented for one week, with no additives, to preserve their natural character.

The distillation process is carried out in traditional copper pot stills, with the second distillation producing a spirit of 70% alcohol. Only the finest eaux-de-vie are selected by the Master Blender and his team, ensuring that each blend meets the House’s exacting standards.

Aging takes place in Limousin oak barrels, which impart rich, complex flavors to the cognac. The Master Blender oversees the aging process, carefully selecting and blending eaux-de-vie to create the signature Rémy Martin style.

This commitment to craftsmanship is exemplified in the creation of Louis XIII, a cognac that represents the pinnacle of Rémy Martin’s expertise. Each decanter of Louis XIII is a blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie, aged for decades and passed down through generations of Master Blenders.
