History & Heritage

Méo-Camuzet is one of Burgundy's most revered wine estates, with a history dating back to the early 20th century. Founded in 1919 by Étienne Camuzet, the estate is located in Vosne-Romanée, the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Étienne, a politician and vineyard owner, initially leased his vineyards to local growers, including the legendary Henri Jayer. In the 1980s, Jean-Nicolas Méo, Étienne's descendant, took over the estate and began bottling wines under the Méo-Camuzet label. Today, the estate is celebrated for its exceptional terroir-driven wines and its commitment to preserving Burgundy's winemaking traditions.

Terroir & Vineyards

Méo-Camuzet owns and manages some of Burgundy's most prestigious vineyards, including grand cru and premier cru sites in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Corton. The estate's vineyards benefit from the region's unique terroir, characterized by limestone-rich soils, optimal sun exposure, and a cool continental climate. Key holdings include the legendary Cros Parantoux (made famous by Henri Jayer), Clos de VougeotRichebourg, and Échezeaux. These vineyards produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes of exceptional quality, reflecting the nuances of each site.

Winemaking Philosophy

Méo-Camuzet combines traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques with modern precision. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, emphasizing minimal intervention in the vineyard and cellar. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, and aging takes place in French oak barrels, with the percentage of new oak tailored to each wine's character. Jean-Nicolas Méo and his team strive to craft wines that express the purity of the terroir, balancing elegance, complexity, and aging potential.
